MG Tim McGuire

MG McGuire graduated from the United States Military Academy and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1987. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Diplomatic and Strategic History from West Point, a Master’s in International Relations as an Olmstead Scholar from the University of Chile, and a Master’s in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.

MG McGuire’s command assignments include command of D Company, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment (Mechanized), 2d Armored Division from 1994 - 1995; 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade from 2003-2006 during its deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan; and 3d Brigade Combat Team, 82d Airborne Division from 2008 to 2010 during its deployment to Iraq. He served as the Deputy Commanding General (Support) for the 82d Airborne Division from April 2012 to February 2013 during the Division’s deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan as Regional Command South. Most recently, MG McGuire served as the Commanding General for the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk from March 2015 to May 2016.

MG McGuire’s key staff assignments include Deputy Director for Operations, J-3, United States Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida; Chief, House Legislative Liaison Division and Deputy Chief, Legislative Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Army; Deputy Commander, Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center; Director of Plans, J-5, Joint Task Force-Liberia; Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, XVIII Airborne Corps and Combined Joint Task Force-180 during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan; S-3 and Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division; and G-3 Training Officer, 82d Airborne Division.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (3OLC), Bronze Star Medal (5OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, and Pathfinder Badge.
